Scripture:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son. Whosoever believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life” – John 3:16

Idols can give you a really great false sense of security. If you put your faith in money, you can believe that a nice car, house, neighborhood, and luxuries will give you happiness. If you put your hope in your education, you can believe that your career will catapult you into your great success in this life. Even if you put your greatest love into your own family, you can start to believe that your wife and kids will give you ultimate purpose. There are so many things in this world that can give us a false sense of salvation. Money, education, or people in our lives are not going to save us. The stuff in the world will not save us.

We all know that there is a problem with this world. We all have experienced some type of pain and sense of longing for more. The Bible is clear that the problem with the world is sin. The world is broken. Sin is the disease that can permeate every good thing that God has made. Sin will empower you lift up “things” and “stuff” in a place of worship – but all the while will be spiritually killing you.

The Bible says, “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:17). The stuff in your world, the things that you lift up in your sin, can never save you from death. One day, we will all encounter our dying day. You never see a hearse with a trailer attached to it because all of the stuff in this world means nothing when you go to the grave. Not even the greatest physicians on earth can solve the death problem. One hundred percent of us die at some point.

However, there is good news. Even though the penalty of our sin is death, Christ Jesus gives us a way out. Even though our body dies, our soul lives on. One day, we will all stand in front of a holy God by whom we will give an account. None of the stuff that we acquired on earth will be there. That nice house, car, baseball talent, or whatever you may think, will not plead a case on your behalf before a holy God that hates sin. If you were perfect, all would be okay – but we all know that have all lived in sin. So God, being the just and righteous one that he is, sends sinners to hell. The only thing that will save you on that day is the blood of Jesus, if you put your faith in him.

For the Christian man, “You were bought with the precious blood of Christ’s death. He was a pure and perfect sacrificial Lamb” (1 Peter 1:19). Jesus, the man that lived around 2,000 years ago was the only perfect person to walk the planet. He was the only spotless lamb that could pay for your sin. It cost him his life for you to be set free. In other words, he took the bullet for you – if you let him.

In this last devotional, we ask you to put your trust and faith solely in the blood of Jesus. Repent of your sin and trust in worldly things for your salvation and greatest hope. Let Jesus plead your case before God one day. Don’t stand alone. Join Jesus Christ’s team today and put your hope in him
