Week 5 - Day 6

(12) With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. (13) She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark.

Reading: Today’s reading is a final greeting where Peter recaps the important theme of the letter and we see two valuable themes in these verses we should take notice of.

First, we see the importance of Christian community. Peter is not working alone! He is serving and ministering alongside brothers and sisters. Sometimes it is lonely living the Christian life. Jesus said it is a narrow road that leads to life and only a few find it. For this reason, it is so important that we are in community with other believers – meeting together, praying together and serving together. Full Count is committed to creating this type of Christian community among baseball players around the world!

Peter also shares thoughts on the exiles. “She who is in Babylon” is a reminder to the church that we are exiles on this earth. This world is not our home, we are citizens of heaven and we are eagerly awaiting our King. This needs to serve as a reminder when we fall in love with the things and the ways of this world, they are fleeting and do not satisfy. But we also need to be encouraged that the Bible calls our suffering “light and momentary,” and that it doesn’t compare to the eternal glory that we have stored up for us in heaven (2 Corinthians 4:17). We need to live and work with this truth tattooed on our minds.

Reflection: Do you have Christian community?  Where?  What does it look like?

Read 2 Corinthians 4 and meditate on this verse - the promise of eternity.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, thank you for the gift of community. Surround me with believers who will point me to you. Help us see this world as temporary, and fix our eyes on the things unseen, which are eternal.
